Three years have passed since the remarkable cancer advocate, author, speaker, and digital creator, Nalie Agustin, passed away at the age of 33 following a courageous battle with cancer. Despite her struggles, this Montrealer touched the hearts of many by sharing her journey of embracing life to the fullest while confronting breast cancer.
In honor of Nalie’s enduring legacy, her family established the Nalie Foundation, which has initiated the second annual Nalie Legacy Walk. This month-long campaign, running until November 7, coinciding with what would have been Nalie’s 37th birthday, aims to raise $37,000 to provide support to those fighting cancer.
Teresa Agustin, Nalie’s mother, emphasized that the goal goes beyond fundraising, aiming to carry forward Nalie’s inspirational impact. She highlighted Nalie’s ability to inspire individuals battling metastatic breast cancer with her story and strength.
Reflecting on the challenges of organizing the Nalie Legacy Walk, Justin Agustin, Nalie’s brother, expressed the family’s collective effort to honor Nalie’s compassionate spirit. He stressed the importance of continuing Nalie’s mission to assist women facing metastatic stage 4 breast cancer and others in need.
The funds raised will be channeled towards aiding individuals in their cancer journeys. According to Jesus Agustin, Nalie’s father, the proceeds will support the development of a specialized program at the Cedar Foundation to provide care for young women battling cancer and to offer assistance to their families.
In remembrance of Nalie’s active spirit, the walk serves as a tribute to her commitment to physical well-being through exercise. The family continues to fulfill Nalie’s wishes, including planting her ashes alongside a young maple tree at Mount Royal Cemetery. This tree has become a symbol of remembrance, where loved ones can visit, leave roses, and cherish memories of Nalie.
This Friday, the second annual Nalie Legacy Walk will commence at Mount Royal, uniting Nalie’s family and friends at St. Joseph’s Oratory. The event will culminate with a walk to the Nalie Tree of Life and a shared sunset viewing, symbolizing a celebration of Nalie’s enduring light.
