Ottawa Redblacks Poach Argos’ Mastermind Ryan Dinwiddie as New Head Coach and GM

Ryan Dinwiddie has been appointed as the new head coach and general manager of the Ottawa Redblacks, marking a significant change for the team.

Dinwiddie’s track record includes leading the Toronto Argonauts to victory in two Grey Cup championships during his five-season tenure. He steps into the coaching role previously held by Bob Dyce, who was let go after Ottawa’s disappointing 4-14 season that resulted in them missing out on the CFL playoffs.

In addition to coaching, Dinwiddie will also take on the responsibilities of the general manager, a position that Shawn Burke had held since December 2021. Burke, on the other hand, has been promoted to the role of vice-president of football operations within the organization.

Dinwiddie’s move to Ottawa represents a career advancement from his previous role with the Argonauts. Toronto’s General Manager, Michael Clemons, praised Dinwiddie’s contributions to the team, highlighting his achievements such as the Grey Cup victories, a Coach of the Year Award, an impressive 16-2 regular season record, and his place as the fourth-winningest coach in Toronto Argonauts history.

The Ottawa Redblacks have struggled in recent years, missing the CFL playoffs in five of the last six seasons since their defeat to the Calgary Stampeders in the 2018 Grey Cup.
