Montreal’s Public Transit Disrupted by Ongoing Strikes
Montreal’s public transit system is facing significant disruptions as the STM maintenance workers’ strike reaches its fifth day, impacting bus and metro services. The strike, involving approximately 2,400 maintenance employees represented by the Syndicat du transport de Montréal–CSN, is causing delays and cancellations in service. Workers are pushing for wage increases and an end to subcontracting of crucial maintenance tasks.
Commuters are urged to stay informed about affected routes, especially those serving schools, as some trips have been canceled. The metro now opens daily at 6:30 a.m., with limited service and station access. Bus schedules are also adjusted, although paratransit services remain unaffected.
For the latest updates and to plan their journeys accordingly, transit users are advised to check the STM website for real-time information. This strike coincides with labor disputes involving CUPE Local 1983, representing bus drivers, metro operators, and station staff, who held a 24-hour strike on Nov. 1 and may strike again on Nov. 15 and 16 if contract negotiations stall.
