Vancouver’s PWHL team name and logo revealed

Mayor Ken Sim unveiled Vancouver’s official PWHL team name Thursday morning.

The team will play as the Vancouver Goldeneyes.

The highly-anticipated reveal also included a team logo, featuring a golden eye over bronze feathers.

A media release from the team says its name was inspired by the “fiercely protective Common Goldeneye,” a species of duck native to Vancouver’s waterways, coastlines, and mountain vistas.

“Drawing inspiration from its speed, strength, and precision in flight, the Goldeneyes reflect Vancouver’s indomitable and unified spirit as they soar to new heights,” it said.

The league first announced expansion to Vancouver in April, amid its second season. Expansion to Seattle was announced later that month, making eight total teams.
