Vigil, forum held for Abbotsford man gunned down

Friends and family of an Abbotsford man killed in a shooting on Oct. 27 gathered at the Taj Park Convention Centre in Surrey Saturday for a vigil and forum.

The killing of 68-year-old Darshan Sahsi, a prominent local businessman, outside his home has devastated his family.

Sahsi’s sister spoke at the forum and said what happened to her brother was unimaginable.

“It was cruel, senseless, and still feels impossible to accept,” she said.

“He was taken from us, not because of who he was but because of this growing cycle of violence that now threatens all of us.”

Homicide investigators say it was a targeted shooting and are on the lookout for a suspect vehicle, a silver Toyota Corolla.

Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke attended the forum and discussed gun violence in the area.

“These are Canadians, these are our neighbours who are being hurt, these are our neighbours who are being extorted, these are our neighbours in our communities that are suffering,” Locke said.

“We are way, way too light on crime in this country…I deeply respect the family for the courage they have to be here.”

Sahsi moved to Canada from India in the early 90s and led a company called Can Am Recycling based in Maple Ridge.
