An SUV crashed into a thrift store on Chambly Road Monday afternoon, say Longueuil police, causing significant damage but no reported injuries.
The collision occurred around 3:10 p.m. near the intersection of Darveau Street, at the Les Trouvailles du Support store.
According to Longueuil police, the driver lost control of the vehicle, possibly during a manoeuvre to avoid another hazard, though the exact cause is still under investigation.
“No injuries were reported,” said a spokesperson for the Longueuil police. “Our teams, supported by the Longueuil fire department, assessed the structure of the building and the circumstances surrounding the incident. There is currently no indication of criminal activity related to this collision.”
The SUV became partially embedded in the front of the store.
Police temporarily closed lanes on Chambly Road to allow for vehicle removal and safety checks. Traffic returned to normal shortly afterward.
The thrift store, which raises funds for the Société québécoise de la déficience intellectuelle, sustained structural damage.
“The safety of our employees and customers is our top priority. We are currently working with specialized teams to ensure everything is completely safe before we reopen. We understand this event may be concerning, and we want to thank our customers and the community for their understanding and support. We will be back very soon with information about reopening and look forward to welcoming you back to a safe and friendly environment,” said the thrift store in a Facebook post.
Authorities said a further update will be provided Tuesday morning, as the investigation continues.
