The Arts Club Theatre says it is offering support services to potential victims who are at the centre of a sex crime investigation.
The Vancouver theatre company has confirmed an employee was suspended while under investigation, accused of secretly filming cast members in a private changing room at the Stanley Theatre on Granville Street.
The investigation started in late August, and an arrest was made the following day by the Vancouver Police Department’s Sex Crimes Unit.
“A 33-year-old male employee was taken into custody on August 29. Charges have not been laid and the suspect has been released from custody while the investigation continues,” said VPD Const. Tania Visintin.
“Protective conditions have been imposed that restrict the suspect from contacting the victims, or anyone known to be associated with Arts Club Theatre Company.”
In a statement to 1130 NewsRadio, Arts Club Executive Director Peter Cathie-White said the employee was “not actively working” while the investigation is underway.
“We are aware of an ongoing police investigation into serious allegations against an employee of our organization. The alleged actions, if true, are deeply troubling and run counter to everything that we stand for,” Cathie-White said.
“Our priority is always the well-being, safety and privacy of our employees and freelance artists. Support services have been established for those affected, and resources are available to ensure that individuals receive the assistance they need.”
The Arts Club did not share any further details or offer further comment while the police investigation is ongoing.
