Heavy rain coming for parts of B.C.’s south coast: Environment Canada

Pouring rain is on the way again for parts of British Columbia’s southern coast.

Environment Canada issued rainfall warnings for Howe Sound and Metro Vancouver’s North Shore and northeast, including Coquitlam and Maple Ridge.

It says 40 to 60 millimetres of rainfall can be expected to fall between Wednesday and Thursday night.

“If you are further south out towards Tsawwassen, Langley, Surrey, you’re not expecting nearly as much, but it still will be pretty wet for you,” said 1130 NewsRadio Meteorologist Carl Lam.

Environment Canada says the rain is the result of a slow-moving frontal system descending across the south coast.

“Heavier rain will be with us for tomorrow, and the gustier winds are also in play for Thursday,” Lam said.

“It looks like the weekend is also pretty soggy as well as we have another system that’s going to swing its way through Metro Vancouver.”

Environment Canada says landslides could occur in vulnerable areas such as steep slopes, deforested areas, or recent burn scars.

The federal department also says water will likely pool on roads and in low-lying areas, creating hazards for drivers.
