Suspect arrested after vehicles, businesses damaged in New Westminster

Police in New Westminster are investigating after a reported vandalism spree in the city’s West End.

The New Westminster Police Department (NWPD) says the windows of 14 vehicles and one business were smashed between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

Officers were first called to Dublin Street near 15th Street shortly before midnight for a reported car alarm blaring.

“The vehicle’s owner discovered the window had been smashed, and soon after, witnesses reported seeing someone riding a bicycle down the street damaging vehicles,” said police Thursday.

Around 2 a.m., the NWPD was called to 12th Street, where a business owner reported seeing a man on a bicycle kick the glass out of a business’s front window.

“Soon after, officers located and arrested a suspect near Edinburgh Street and Henley Street.”

In a post to social media Wednesday, What’s Good? Vintage shared images of a shattered window, adding its operators are “heartbroken.”
