SAQ office staff reach agreement in principle

The union representing the office, technical, and professional staff of the Société des alcools du Québec (SAQ) and the SAQ announced that they reached an agreement in principle Tuesday evening.

The Crown corporation’s approximately 500 employees are represented by the Syndicat du personnel technique et professionnel de la SAQ (SPTP-SAQ-CSN), which had launched a seven-day strike earlier this month.

This was the first strike in the union’s more than 50-year history.

Background:

An offer from management was subsequently presented on Nov. 11, and negotiations had continued, according to the union.

The SAQ’s office, technical, and professional staff work primarily on the operation of the SAQ.com transactional website, store supplies, quality control, and payroll.

The SAQ emphasized on Wednesday that it had “maintained an adequate level of service for its customers given the circumstances,” despite the strike days.

Members of the SPTP-SAQ-CSN union are expected to vote on the tentative agreement this Thursday at a general meeting.
