Man dead, woman critically injured after violent crash in RDP-Pointes-aux-Trembles

A man in his 60s died and a 20-year-old woman is in critical condition after a violent collision late Wednesday afternoon in Montreal’s East End – involving multiple vehicles and a public transit bus.

It happened around 3:50 p.m. on Sherbrooke East, near Réal-Benoit Street, in the Rivières-des-Prairies-Pointes-aux-Trembles borough.

“On the scene, officers provided assistance to the injured individuals involved in the collision,” explained Florence Stafford, spokesperson for the Montreal police (SPVM). “Unfortunately a man in his 60s was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity remains unknown at this time.”

“A 20-year-old woman was unconscious when police arrived and was transported to hospital in critical condition. Three other occupants were [taken] to hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening,” added Stafford.

According to initial information obtained by authorities, a female driver was headed west on Sherbrooke and attempted to avoid a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction – and making a left turn on Réal-Benoit – but in doing so, she reportedly collided with another car.

“After the impact, two other vehicles were also involved, including an STM bus – whose occupants were not injured,” said Stafford.

A security perimeter was set up in the area to allow SPVM collision investigators to analyze the scene and understand the circumstances surrounding the event.
