Quebec drivers with a Class 5 licence and no demerit points looking to renew their licence next year will pay about $50.
That’s nearly double the $26.25 drivers paid this year.
But it’s also down considerably from the $121 initially planned by the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ).
Les Québécois bénéficieront d’une réduction de 75 % sur le coût de la contribution d’assurance associée à leur permis de conduire en 2026. Au total, ils économiseront près de 462 millions de dollars.https://t.co/HjuecePq8W
That’s because for four years in a row now – 2026 will be the fifth – Quebec drivers have benefited from a reduction in the cost of the insurance premium associated with their driver’s licence.
“This rebate is possible for Quebecers thanks to the sound management of the Quebec Automobile Insurance Fund, which has increased available funds, and the decrease in the number of road accidents since 2020,” the SAAQ wrote in a news release.
The SAAQ says next year’s rebate will put a combined $462 million back in the pockets of Quebec’s drivers, adding to the already $2.4 billion saved over the past four years.
