Montreal police (SPVM) arrested three suspects after an attempted arson outside a bar in Old Montreal early Nov. 17, an incident investigators say may be linked to previous acts targeting the same establishment.
According to the SPVM, the attempt unfolded around 3:35 a.m. Monday when a vehicle carrying several people arrived at the bar on Saint-Pierre Street.
One of the passengers allegedly stepped out holding a gas can and walked towards the entrance, but quickly turned back after being spotted by a security guard.
The group fled in the same vehicle, which patrol officers intercepted minutes later.
Police say incendiary materials were found inside and the occupants were arrested immediately.
The two adult suspects, 20-year-old Pente Patrick Loic Ngamaleu and 19-year-old Anthony Nonez, appeared in court later that day on charges of possessing incendiary materials. Both were released under conditions pending the next steps in their cases.
A third suspect, a 15-year-old boy whose identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, appeared in youth court Wednesday. He faces charges of conspiracy, possession of incendiary materials, and attempted or accessory involvement in a criminal act, and was also released under conditions.
Police say this is not the first time the Saint-Pierre Street bar has been targeted, and the investigation has been turned over to the SPVM’s Arson squad.
Investigators are exploring the possibility of additional suspects and have not ruled out further arrests.
Anyone with information is urged to contact police or provide an anonymous tip through Info-Crime Montréal.
Authorities are also reminding business owners who may be facing threats or intimidation not to ignore them and to report concerns promptly so investigators can intervene before the situation escalates.
