A 13-year-old girl was struck and killed by a school bus near her home in Laval on Thursday.
The incident occurred around 5:40 p.m. at the corner of de la Volière Ave. and des Rossignols Blvd. in the Sainte-Rose district.
Laval police explained that the girl had just gotten off the bus when she was hit. The teen’s death was confirmed on the scene.
The bus driver was taken to hospital to be treated for shock.
Police said other students were on the bus when the incident happened and psychological support was being provided. Workers from Urgence sociale were called to assist the girl’s family.
“The [bus] driver and witnesses will be interviewed,” said Laval police spokesperson Erika Landry.
Authorities have set up a large security perimeter as they investigate. The cause of the collision has yet to be confirmed.
