Arrest Made After Suspected Hate Crime Unfolds on Toronto Transit Bus

A man has been arrested after allegedly making threats on a TTC bus in Toronto. The incident occurred when a passenger asked him to lower his music, resulting in the man making anti-immigrant remarks and threatening violence if the passenger didn’t stop talking.

The situation escalated when the alarmed passenger informed the bus driver, leading the man to leave the bus and flee. After an investigation, Toronto police apprehended 38-year-old Marco Valerio Giogrio and charged him with uttering threats.

Authorities are treating the incident as a potential hate-motivated offense, which may result in further charges. In cases where criminal actions are suspected to be influenced by bias or hate, the judge can consider hate as an aggravating factor during sentencing.
