A tragic incident occurred at a coal mine in the British Columbia Interior near the Alberta border, resulting in the loss of a 39-year-old man from Hosmer.
The Elk Valley RCMP received a report on Thursday morning regarding the disappearance of the man at Elk Valley Resources’ Elkview Operations in Sparwood, B.C. Following the notification, Elk Valley rescue teams, with support from the RCMP, initiated a search for the missing individual. Sadly, the man’s remains were discovered early Friday.
Authorities have identified the deceased as a contractor working at the mine site. Presently, the RCMP, in collaboration with the BC Coroners Service, are conducting investigations at the scene. The B.C. Mining Ministry has also been informed and will participate in the inquiry.
