Mark Your Calendars: Finch West LRT Set to Launch on December 7, Transforming Toronto Transit!

Finch West Light Rail Transit (LRT) is set to open to the public on December 7, marking a significant milestone in Toronto’s public transportation network.

Metrolinx, the agency overseeing the project, has announced that key readiness milestones have been achieved for the line’s opening. Following a successful 30-day revenue service demonstration, the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) has taken full operational control, paving the way for the official start of revenue service on December 7, 2025.

The completion of substantial work on November 12 has set the stage for collaboration between Metrolinx and TTC to ensure a smooth launch of the Finch West LRT. The line, which features 18 stops and primarily runs along Finch Avenue West from Keele Street to Humber College station at Highway 27, has been in construction since 2019.

In contrast, the Eglinton Crosstown LRT project, now in its 14th year of construction and commissioning, still lacks a firm opening date. Metrolinx reports that the LRT is undergoing its revenue service demonstration phase, after which it will be handed over to TTC for final preparations before passenger service can commence.

Excitement is building as Toronto’s public transit network expands with the upcoming inauguration of the Finch West LRT, promising improved connectivity and accessibility for residents and commuters alike.
