Authorities will provide an update on Monday regarding a tragic fire in Brampton that has resulted in the loss of three lives. The fire, which occurred early on Thursday, has left two individuals, including a toddler and an adult, still unaccounted for as search efforts continue near Banas Way.
Tragically, the remains of an adult were discovered amidst the aftermath of the fire on Friday. Peel Regional Police have indicated that detailed information about the missing individuals will be disclosed only after the completion of the search operation.
The incident claimed the lives of two adults on the spot, while four others, including a five-year-old child, were rushed to the hospital. One of the adult victims is in critical condition, while the others are reported to be in stable condition.
At the time of the fire, a total of eleven individuals were residing in the house, comprising nine family members and two occupants in a secondary basement unit. Authorities have confirmed that all individuals are related in some manner, though specific relationships were not disclosed.
Mayor Patrick Brown of Brampton highlighted that the residence was not authorized for the number of occupants present, attributing this to an absentee landlord who failed to comply with mandatory city inspections.
