“Alleged Quebec Extremism Plot: Key Suspect Faces Court, Trial Set for Next Year”

In a recent development, one of the four individuals accused in a suspected anti-government scheme to seize control of land in Quebec City made a brief court appearance today. Matthew Forbes, facing charges related to weapons, is currently out on bail and is set to return to court on February 2.

Prosecutor Gabriel Lapierre informed the Quebec court that 90% of the evidence against Forbes has been presented to his defense team, signaling readiness to proceed with setting a trial date.

On the other hand, Forbes’ co-accused – Marc-Aurèle Chabot, Raphaël Lagacé, and Simon Angers-Audet – remain in custody, facing charges linked to alleged terrorism activities aimed at establishing an anti-government community in the north of Quebec. They are scheduled for a joint appearance in a Quebec City courtroom on December 1, with Lagacé and Angers-Audet also having separate hearings this week.

Chabot and Forbes were serving in the military at Canadian Forces Base Valcartier near Quebec City when the arrests of the four individuals took place on July 8.
