The Order of Certified Human Resources Advisors is advising the Legault government to proceed carefully with its proposed legislation on trade union transparency and governance. Labour Minister Jean Boulet’s bill will undergo special consultations over three days this week.
In the past, unions have been vocal in their opposition to the government’s perceived intrusion into union affairs, alleging attempts to silence them and curtail their role as a counterbalance to authority.
Now, the Order of Certified Human Resources Professionals is voicing concerns about specific elements of the bill and is calling for prudence from lawmakers.
One of the key concerns raised by the order pertains to the inclusion of optional union dues alongside mandatory contributions. Additionally, the order is apprehensive about the potential financial and administrative burdens that the legislation could place on smaller unions lacking the resources of larger central or federated unions.
