“Teen Detained in Major Counter-Terror Sweep, Alleged Ties to ISIS Propaganda Uncovered by RCMP”

Authorities arrested a young individual in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) for terrorism-related offenses, as reported by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).

The arrest was made by officers from the RCMP’s Central Region Integrated National Security Enforcement Team (GTA-INSET) on Nov. 4.

The accused is believed to have been involved in the activities of a terrorist group by editing and sharing ISIS propaganda videos online. Additionally, the individual allegedly encouraged someone else to provide firearms for the purpose of carrying out terrorist acts.

Due to the individual’s age, their identity remains protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA). The charges include participating in the activities of a terrorist group and soliciting property for terrorist activities.

The RCMP acknowledged the collaboration of both domestic and international counterparts in the investigation, with the New York Police Department (NYPD) being specifically mentioned.

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch emphasized the importance of global cooperation in combating terrorism, stating, “Public safety transcends boundaries, and international terrorism seeks only to instill chaos and fear. The NYPD is committed to addressing this threat wherever it arises, and we are grateful to have worked alongside the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and other partners to uncover this dangerous scheme and protect the public.”
