“Families Forced Out as Car Fire Ignites St-Leonard Duplex Inferno”

Montreal Firefighters Respond to Garage Fire in St-Leonard

A gas-powered car igniting inside a garage sparked a major fire in St-Leonard on Wednesday morning, prompting a swift response from Montreal firefighters. The blaze quickly spread throughout a two-storey duplex, leading to the evacuation of five families.

The Montreal fire department (SIM) received the emergency call at 9:17 a.m. and promptly arrived at the scene on Lacordaire Blvd., near des Galets Street. As about 55 firefighters worked to contain the flames, residents were safely evacuated from the building.

Three of the affected families received support from the Red Cross, while the other two made their own housing arrangements. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Despite bringing the fire under control, firefighters continued to investigate the incident to determine its origin. Montreal police confirmed that they were not involved in the case, as no criminal activity is suspected.
