Poulin, Roque, and Desbiens Dominate: Victoire Shuts Out Sirens with Stunning 4-0 Victory in Season Opener

Marie-Philip Poulin led the way with a goal and an assist, making history as the first PWHL player to achieve 50 career points. Abby Roque dazzled with a spectacular goal and two assists against her former team, propelling the Montreal Victoire to a decisive 4-0 victory over the New York Sirens on Tuesday night.

Ann-Renée Desbiens was a brick wall in goal, turning away 33 shots, while Natalie Mlynkova also found the back of the net for Montreal in front of a crowd of 8,391 at Place Bell. Laura Stacey contributed with two assists, and Maggie Flaherty sealed the win with an empty-net goal.

Despite a disappointing loss in their season opener, the Victoire showed their dominance in this matchup, bouncing back from a defeat against the Boston Fleet. Kayle Osborne put up a strong performance in goal for New York, making 26 saves as the Sirens aimed to build on their early-season success.

Mlynkova opened the scoring for Montreal with her first-ever PWHL goal, deflecting a point shot on the power play early in the second period. Poulin extended the lead with a late goal in the middle frame, while Roque showcased her skills with a remarkable between-the-legs breakaway goal in the third period.

Notable moments included Desbiens’ spectacular save to deny the Sirens’ Paetyn Levis, preventing a sure goal with a brilliant sliding stop. The game also marked the return of Kristin O’Neill to Montreal, who received a warm reception after being traded to New York in the off-season.
