“Quebec Launches Groundbreaking Campaign to Combat Intimate Partner Violence”

An advocacy campaign focusing on combating intimate partner violence is currently underway throughout Quebec this Wednesday.

Collaborating with police officers, local organizations, and government allies, the initiative aims to raise awareness and highlight available support services.

Various events are taking place at key locations along major highways, through pedestrian outreach, and via information kiosks as part of the ongoing 12 Days of Action Against Violence Towards Women and Girls.

Expressing the significance of the campaign, Jocelyne Jolin, Executive Director of SOS violence conjugale, emphasized, “This presents a crucial opportunity for us to convey a powerful and uplifting message directly to the public.”

As part of the 12 Days of Action, a large-scale projection featuring the SOS Violence conjugale logo, along with the symbolic white ribbon representing the fight against violence towards women, will adorn the façade of the Sûreté du Québec headquarters in Montreal.

Highlighting the collaborative effort, Caroline Girard, Lieutenant Coordinator within the Sûreté du Québec’s team dedicated to addressing intimate partner violence, stated, “For the fourth consecutive year, this coordinated national initiative showcases our joint commitment to taking action, underscoring the strength of our collective efforts between law enforcement and specialized support personnel. Together, we engage with the community to promote awareness, prevent violence, and most importantly, provide avenues for assistance. Sometimes, a simple act of support can be transformative for a victim.”

In alignment with the mission, Marie-Claude Richer, Director of Rebâtir, emphasized, “Our objective is to disrupt the cycle of isolation, educate victims about their rights, and instill hope. It is a privilege to be part of this unified endeavor in Quebec. Through our combined efforts, we empower victims to trust in the legal system and reclaim control over their lives.”

To seek assistance, individuals are encouraged to contact SOS violence conjugale at 1-800-363-9010 for support available 24/7. If there are concerns about potential violence towards a partner, appointments can be scheduled by calling PRO-GAM at 514-270-8462.
