A 27-year-old woman from Thorold, Ontario, is facing charges after Ontario Provincial Police officers stopped a vehicle in Welland and found three young children in the back seat without proper safety restraints.
The incident occurred on Nov. 26 at 8:35 a.m. when a Niagara OPP officer received an alert via Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) about a vehicle in the area. The vehicle was pulled over, and it was discovered that the three children, aged 1, 3, and 4, were not properly secured in child car seats as required by law.
The driver, who only had a G1 licence and lacked insurance coverage, was found to be operating the vehicle illegally. The OPP issued various charges against the driver, including violations related to child seat safety, driving without insurance, and driving without a valid licence.
It is crucial for drivers to ensure that all passengers under the age of 16 are safely secured either with seatbelts or appropriate child car seats. The OPP Highway Safety Division emphasized the importance of following these safety regulations to protect young passengers.
