The New Westminster Police Department (NWPD) is warning drivers to be vigilant on the roads following a series of incidents where pedestrians were struck by vehicles in a span of three days.
Between November 22 and November 24, the NWPD responded to three separate collisions involving pedestrians, marking an unusual occurrence according to Sgt. Andrew Leaver.
The first incident occurred on 6th Street on November 22, with the victim contacting 911 after being hit by a driver who stayed at the scene and cooperated with authorities. Fortunately, the victim sustained only minor injuries.
Shortly after, on 8th Street, another pedestrian was struck by a hit-and-run driver. The NWPD located the driver nearby and provided assistance to the injured pedestrian, who also suffered minor injuries.
The third incident took place in the Sapperton area on Monday, involving a driver hitting a pedestrian. The driver remained at the scene, and their vehicle was seized for investigation purposes. The extent of the pedestrian’s injuries is currently unknown.
Sgt. Leaver emphasized the hazards of winter driving conditions, citing reduced visibility and early darkness as contributing factors to road accidents. He stressed the importance of shared responsibility in road safety, urging drivers to slow down, stay focused, and watch out for others.
Although the investigations are ongoing, some drivers involved in these incidents have already been issued violation tickets.
