Authorities Probe Violent Assault on Taxi Driver in Maple Ridge

The RCMP is currently investigating a violent attack on a taxi driver that occurred in Maple Ridge over two months ago.

On September 17, just before 3 p.m., the Ridge Meadows RCMP responded to reports of an unprovoked assault near the intersection of Sheldrake Court and Fern Crescent. The taxi driver had picked up the suspect from a business on 232nd Street near 129th Avenue. During the drive, the suspect suddenly demanded the driver to stop and proceeded to physically assault him.

The driver sustained facial injuries from the assault, which involved multiple punches. Additionally, the suspect tried to damage the taxi’s CCTV camera and then smashed the vehicle’s windshield before fleeing the scene. Despite efforts involving police dogs and air services, the suspect remains at large.

Authorities have released photos of the suspect, described as a man in his mid-to-late 50s with a robust build, seen wearing a dark T-shirt at the time of the incident.

Inspector Martin Guay condemned the attack as an unprovoked act of violence that occurred in broad daylight, witnessed by multiple community members. He urged the public to help identify the suspect to ensure accountability for his actions.
