Hydro-Québec Sees Strong Financial Growth in First Nine Months of 2025
Hydro-Québec has announced a robust financial performance for the first nine months of 2025, with a net income of $2.83 billion, marking a significant increase of $641 million compared to the same period last year.
The government-owned corporation unveiled its financial results for the first three quarters of the year on Friday, highlighting the key factors behind its impressive growth.
One of the primary drivers of this success was the cold temperatures experienced last winter, leading to an eight per cent surge in electricity sales within Quebec compared to the previous year. Additionally, Hydro-Québec credits its successful marketing strategy for maximizing the value of exports.
Despite a decline in sales volume outside Quebec, the corporation managed to offset this through higher prices, resulting in a substantial 20 per cent increase in revenues year-over-year.
Maxime Aucoin, the executive vice president and chief financial officer, explained that while Hydro-Québec remains well-equipped to meet electricity demand, the careful management of reservoirs has impacted external sales volume.
Moreover, Hydro-Québec’s financial performance for the first nine months also includes a gain of over $250 million from the sale of its investment in the subsidiary Innergex Renewable Energy.
