The mayor of Montreal-North has launched an investigation following the destruction of a homeless encampment by city workers. Christine Black expressed concern over a misunderstanding that led to workers mistakenly damaging the belongings of individuals residing in the encampment. Residents reported that workers arrived unannounced, causing significant destruction to their personal possessions.
Black shared that the workers were initially tasked with clearing accumulated waste at the site but inadvertently caused harm to the belongings of the encampment residents. The borough had previously allowed the encampment to exist due to the lack of alternative housing options for its occupants.
In response to the incident, Black has expressed a desire to replace the damaged possessions of the affected residents. The situation has raised questions about the handling of homeless encampments and the importance of proper communication and understanding in such situations.
