“Quebec Strikes Key Agreement with Highway Patrol Officers, Paving the Way for Enhanced Road Safety”

Quebec highway patrol officers and the province have reached a tentative agreement on renewing their collective contract. The Fraternité des constables du contrôle routier du Québec, representing 300 officers, came to the agreement with the support of the Conseil du trésor and Contrôle routier Québec, an agency linked to the Quebec auto-insurance board.

This new agreement comes after the rejection of a previous tentative deal last April by a majority of the officers. Following feedback from members on their dissatisfaction with the initial agreement, negotiations were reopened.

Fraternity President Jean-Claude Daignault expressed optimism in an interview, hoping to see a resolution before the expiration of the current collective contract in March 2023. Notably, the issue of arming highway patrol officers, a separate matter, was addressed separately last October when Quebec announced officers would now carry weapons as requested.
