Montreal’s Metro System Faces Potential Disruptions as STM Maintenance Workers Plan to Forego Overtime
Commuters in Montreal may face travel disruptions as maintenance workers at the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) consider skipping extra hours from December 9 to January 11, 2026. The union representing these workers has declared their intention to refuse overtime during this period.
While the agency has acknowledged the potential impact of the strike on services, warning of potential reductions in the number of vehicles operating, it is yet to be seen how this will affect daily commuters.
An upcoming hearing at the Administrative Labour Tribunal will determine the essential services that STM must provide during the labor action. Further updates will be provided following the tribunal’s ruling.
