Discover Which Quebec Grocery Stores Offer the Best Bang for Your Buck!

An analysis of grocery store prices in Quebec has revealed that Maxi offers the most affordable items compared to other major chains. Over a six-month period, investigative journalists from Les Coops de l’information compared the prices of 30 items at Maxi, Walmart, Super C, IGA, and Metro in Gatineau and Quebec City.

Buying these 30 items consistently for six months would result in varying costs for shoppers. Food prices have become a significant concern for Canadian households due to rising expenses at the grocery store and shrinking product sizes. According to Statistics Canada, the cost of groceries increased by 3.4% annually in October, a slight decrease from the previous month.

While prices for fresh vegetables and processed foods have stabilized, there have been notable price increases for fresh and frozen chicken. The growth in grocery costs has surpassed the overall inflation rate, reflecting the financial strain on consumers.
