A vibrant new Indigenous establishment is set to debut in the bustling heart of downtown Edmonton, offering a unique blend of a traditional Indigenous café and a dynamic venue for live performances, music, and art.
Kakio Productions, the brainchild of Dallas Arcand, a renowned Edmonton artist and four-time world champion hoop dancer, embodies inclusivity and community spirit, with “Kakio” symbolizing ‘everybody’ in Cree. Arcand envisions his venture as a gathering place that fosters unity among Edmontonians of all backgrounds.
Emphasizing the importance of Indigenous presence on traditional territory, Arcand expresses his desire for Kakio to serve as a platform for cultural celebration and collaboration. By welcoming diverse audiences to share in the experience of food, art, and connection, he aims to challenge stereotypes and highlight the rich heritage of Indigenous cultures.
Partnering with Indigenous café Tee Pee Treats, Kakio Productions will offer a tantalizing culinary experience featuring Edmonton’s finest bannock, curated by owner Curtis Cardinal. Cardinal views the fusion of music, food, and community as a powerful expression of Indigenous traditions and a way to bring people together in an authentic and welcoming environment.
Beyond showcasing local talent and creativity, Arcand envisions Kakio as a legacy project, designed to inspire and empower Indigenous youth to pursue their aspirations. With a focus on fostering growth, creating opportunities, and passing on a vibrant heritage to future generations, Kakio Productions embodies a vision of sustainability and cultural enrichment.
Located at 102 Avenue and 106 Street, Kakio Productions is slated to open its doors to the public in the upcoming year, inviting all to experience a fusion of art, culture, and community in the heart of Edmonton.
