Strike Alert: STM Maintenance Workers to Hit the Picket Lines Starting December 11, Delay Adds Unexpected Twist to Labor Dispute

The scheduled fourth strike by maintenance workers at the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) has been delayed by two days, as ruled by the Labour Tribunal citing non-compliance with the strike notice.

This upcoming strike will involve a refusal to work overtime and is set to commence on December 11, wrapping up on January 11.

The union representing the 2,400 maintenance staff, affiliated with the CSN, had initially notified of an “overtime strike” scheduled to run from December 9 to January 11. However, the Tribunal found this notice to be non-compliant due to issues regarding deadlines.

Following this ruling, a new strike notice was issued by the maintenance workers’ union on Monday evening. The strike, originally planned for December 9, will now kick off on December 11 and extend until January 11.
