Toronto Subway Stations Eglinton West and Dundas to Receive New Names
Toronto’s subway map is set for a makeover as two familiar stops are getting new identities.
Effective December 7, the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) will formally change Eglinton West Station to Cedarvale Station and Dundas Station to TMU Station.
The alterations will be implemented throughout the system, with updated signage, maps, and Line 1 train announcements. Work is already underway to install new wayfinding materials in anticipation of the transition.
According to TTC Chair Jamaal Myers, the renaming aims to strengthen connections with the local communities surrounding the stations. For Dundas Station, the rebranding to TMU Station is a result of a collaboration with Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU).
Myers highlighted the partnership, stating, “It is a result of a partnership that will provide the TTC with access to world-class research on transit.”
TMU President Mohamed Lachemi expressed enthusiasm about the change, labeling it as a “significant milestone” for the university. Lachemi emphasized the university’s role in contributing meaningfully to the city of Toronto.
The decision to name Cedarvale Station was endorsed by the TTC Board in 2015. This station will function as a transfer point for the long-awaited Line 5 Eglinton Crosstown, awaiting an opening date from Metrolinx.
The renaming of these TTC stations coincides with the inauguration of Line 6 Finch West, enabling the TTC to introduce updated subway announcements system-wide simultaneously.
