“Breakthrough Agreement: Quebec Road Traffic Controllers Secure Second Deal, Aiming to Enhance Road Safety and Efficiency”

Quebec Road Traffic Controllers Approve New Collective Agreement

After thorough discussions and two members’ meetings, Quebec’s road traffic controllers have officially ratified their second agreement in principle with the government concerning the renewal of their collective agreement.

La Fraternité des constables du contrôle routier held voting sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday, with an overwhelming 94.5% of members supporting the agreement. The new deal was negotiated with the Treasury Board and Quebec Highway Patrol, a division of the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ), and finalized last Thursday evening.

This marks the second agreement in principle for the Brotherhood, following the rejection of the previous proposal last spring by a narrow margin of 53%.

In response to member feedback, the parties engaged in further discussions to address concerns raised regarding the initial agreement.

It’s important to note that the collective agreement issue is distinct from the ongoing debate on whether road traffic controllers should be armed while on duty. While the matter of carrying weapons is linked to workplace health and safety considerations, Quebec had previously announced that the controllers would indeed carry weapons starting last October.
