Delta Mayor Shakes Up Political Landscape, Ousts Four Councillors from Party

The mayor of Delta, George Harvie, has removed four city councillors from his party’s future election slate.

This decision was communicated to councillors Daniel Boisvert, Jennifer Johal, Rodney Binder, and Dylan Kruger on Wednesday. They were informed that they would not be allowed to run as party members in the upcoming 2026 election and that all association with the party would cease.

Councillor Kruger expressed disappointment in how they were informed, stating that they received the news via a letter from the official party agent. He mentioned that after an eight-year relationship with the mayor, a more personal approach would have been expected.

The letter officially severed the four councillors’ ties with Mayor Harvie’s party. This move comes after previous conflicts between the council and the mayor, such as the council’s decision in May to remove Harvie as its representative to the Metro Vancouver Regional District due to concerns over his spending on overseas trips.

Kruger noted that the council had been striving for greater transparency and accountability but indicated that the recent communication from the mayor’s office showed a lack of interest in collaboration.

He mentioned that more information about their future plans for the next civic election would be shared in the coming days and weeks.
