“Mary Hill Bypass Commuters Face Construction Chaos: Delays Expected to Increase”

Drivers along the Mary Hill Bypass in Port Coquitlam are expressing frustration over ongoing traffic delays and road modifications. The provincial government initiated seismic upgrades on the Coquitlam River Bridge in late November, resulting in reduced speed limits from 70 to 40 kilometres per hour and narrower lanes causing confusion among motorists.

Port Coquitlam Mayor, Brad West, has voiced the community’s concerns to the Ministry of Transportation, prompting a response indicating the possible role of existing road markings in driver confusion. In response, the government plans to remove current road lines and install delineators to clarify the new travel lanes.

Despite efforts to alleviate traffic congestion, drivers should anticipate up to a five-minute delay when crossing the bridge, as construction is expected to continue until the fall of 2026 with an estimated cost of $6.5 million.
