The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) revealed that a successful operation in Laval led to the seizure of over $1 million in stolen vehicles and boats on Wednesday. The operation, conducted by the Major Crimes division, targeted a cell phone fraud and stolen goods ring, resulting in raids on three residences and a business.
According to the SQ’s press release on Thursday, the crime ring’s activities involved recruiting individuals to open phone lines and acquire subsidized devices for resale overseas. Multiple service providers were impacted by the fraudulent scheme, causing significant financial losses, with over half a million dollars reported for Bell Canada.
Furthermore, the investigation was a follow-up to a previous extortion case involving Daniel Sabir, who was charged in February 2025. The collaboration between the SQ, Bell Canada, and Laval police led to the successful raid, with more than 40 officers participating in the operation.
