“Imminent Verdict: Montreal Man Faces Judgment for Triple Family Murder – Sanity on the Line”

In January, a judge will determine the criminal responsibility of a man who tragically stabbed his parents and grandmother in their Montreal apartment in March 2023.

The Crown and defense lawyers recently presented their arguments in the case, both asserting that Arthur Galarneau was not criminally responsible due to his mental state during the triple murder.

Background investigations revealed that experts from both sides diagnosed Galarneau with schizophrenia.

Quebec Superior Court Justice Annie Émond is scheduled to deliver her verdict on January 22.

The accused, Galarneau, faced second-degree murder charges for the deaths of his 53-year-old parents, Mylène Gingras and Richard Galarneau, as well as his 75-year-old grandmother, Francine Gingras-Boucher.

If the judge accepts the joint submission, the Crown intends to push for Galarneau to be classified as a high-risk offender, possibly leading to stricter restrictions on his movements or preventing him from leaving a psychiatric facility.

Galarneau’s legal team has expressed their opposition to a high-risk offender designation.
