PQ Leader Claims Cultural Community Shows Waning Loyalty to Quebec

Parti Québécois Leader Criticizes Quebec Cultural Community’s Loyalty

Parti Québécois leader, Paul St-Pierre Plamondon, voiced his disappointment with the lack of loyalty shown by some spokespersons in the Quebec cultural community. This criticism stemmed from the warm reception given to Marc Miller, the newly appointed federal Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture, by various cultural associations as reported by Radio-Canada.

St-Pierre Plamondon expressed his dismay on social media, labeling a significant portion of Quebec’s cultural community as intellectually vacant and overly flattering. He emphasized feeling ashamed of their behavior and defended his stance at a news briefing by stating that he was deeply hurt by the actions of certain individuals.

The PQ leader did not mince words when he accused Miller, a former immigration minister, of playing a role in the decline of Quebec’s language. He questioned the sincerity of those who welcomed Miller into his new position, highlighting the importance of loyalty to Quebec and the French-speaking world.

Among the organizations that supported Miller’s appointment were SARTEC, AQPM, and ANEL. SARTEC’s executive director, Laurent Dubois, mentioned the reassurance of having someone of Miller’s caliber representing artists, while Hélène Messier from AQPM praised Miller’s commitment to Quebec culture.

However, not everyone agreed with St-Pierre Plamondon’s criticisms. Political opponents labeled his attacks as unwarranted and called for an apology, denouncing his remarks as disrespectful towards Quebec’s cultural sector.

While Premier François Legault and Minister of Culture Mathieu Lacombe refrained from criticizing St-Pierre Plamondon, they previously criticized Miller for downplaying the debate on the decline of French in Quebec.
