A recent multi-vehicle crash in Port Coquitlam has sparked an investigation by the RCMP after several pedestrians were struck. The incident took place at the intersection of Lougheed Highway and Westwood Street, where a chain reaction collision unfolded just after 2 p.m. on a Tuesday.
According to the Coquitlam RCMP, the initial findings suggest that a vehicle slowing down for a red light on Lougheed Highway was rear-ended by another vehicle. Subsequently, both vehicles continued through the intersection, hitting a third vehicle and multiple pedestrians.
Unfortunately, one individual, identified as the driver of one of the vehicles, sustained serious injuries and was promptly transported to the hospital. BC Emergency Health Services attended to five other patients, all of whom were taken to the hospital in stable condition.
Fortunately, all parties involved, including the drivers and pedestrians, remained at the scene and are fully cooperating with the authorities. The RCMP has ruled out alcohol and drugs as contributing factors to the crash.
