Canadian Tire has unveiled its latest collection, showcasing the beloved Hudson’s Bay stripes just in time for the holiday season. Enthusiastic shoppers were eager to get their hands on the iconic woolen blankets and caribou throws when the collection was released on Friday.
However, for those hoping to snag these classic items in-store over the weekend, disappointment may be on the horizon. Several would-be shoppers have lamented missing out on the opportunity to purchase these popular products, with many stores quickly selling out of limited stock within hours.
One Vancouver-area Canadian Tire store, for instance, completely sold out in just about an hour. Despite missing out on the chance to purchase the blankets, shopper Delee Hammond expressed delight in seeing the collection, emphasizing its significance in Canadian history.
While some items featuring the Bay’s stripes are still available, such as mugs, mittens, sheets, and Christmas decorations, the highly sought-after woolen blankets may be restocked online. Additionally, fleece throws adorned with the iconic stripes are still on shelves for those eager to wrap themselves up in the distinctive design.
Originating in the 1600s, Hudson’s Bay point blankets are steeped in history, with the current version’s colorful stripes dating back to around 1779. In a significant move earlier this year, Canadian Tire acquired intellectual property from Hudson’s Bay for $30 million, including the iconic multi-colored stripes motif and other brand trademarks.
As the holiday season approaches, many are left wondering if more of the coveted woolen blankets and caribou throws will be available for purchase in time for Christmas. 1130 NewsRadio has reached out to Canadian Tire for further updates on restocking these popular items.
