Impending Strike: Key STM Union Joins Escalating Labor Dispute

The Montreal Transit Corporation (STM) is facing another potential strike, this time by a union of 800 professionals who have not taken such action before. These professionals include engineers, architects, analysts, and consultants, represented by a local branch of the Professional and Office Employees Union (SEPB) affiliated with the FTQ.

The union is planning an “overtime strike” scheduled to run from December 17th to January 11th. In mid-November, its members had voted to authorize a 10-day strike to be carried out at an appropriate time.

If negotiations do not progress as desired, the union is open to escalating the strike in late January. This strike will overlap with the planned strike by 2,400 maintenance staff of the STM, who are set to strike from December 11th to January 11th, also involving a refusal to work overtime.
