“Ride Free on Launch Day! Mayor Chow Announces No-Cost Debut for Finch West LRT”

Mayor Olivia Chow announced that the Line 6 Finch West LRT will kick off its opening day with free rides for all passengers. The newest addition to the TTC transit system is set to open to the public this Sunday, starting with a ceremonial ride at 7:20 a.m.

Riders can hop on the first westbound train departing from Norfinch Oakdale Station at 7:33 a.m., or catch the inaugural eastbound train leaving Jane and Finch station at 7:47 a.m. Mayor Chow encouraged everyone to take advantage of the free rides, saying, “Enjoy this Sunday. Come and experience the Finch West LRT for yourself.”

The LRT vehicles are environmentally friendly, emitting zero emissions, and have a capacity to carry up to 300 passengers, reaching speeds of up to 60 kilometres per hour.

Premier Doug Ford expressed gratitude for the collaborative effort that brought the Line 6 project to fruition, stating, “It took the whole city and part of the province to make this happen, and now we are officially open for business.”

With 18 stops along Finch Avenue West, the Line 6 route connects Finch West Station on Line 1 Yonge-University with Humber Polytechnic’s North Campus, providing a convenient transit option for residents in North Etobicoke. MP John Zerucelli shared in the excitement, highlighting the positive impact on commute times and thanking both the province and the city for their contributions to the project.
