“After Seven Long Years, Finch West LRT Springs to Life This Sunday!”

After seven years of construction, the Finch West Light Rail Transit (LRT) is ready to welcome its first passengers this Sunday.

Toronto’s latest transit addition will officially kick off with a special inaugural ride departing from Finch West station at 7:20 a.m. The initial westbound train will start its journey from Norfinch Oakdale Station at 7:33 a.m., followed by the first eastbound train departing from Jane and Finch Station at 7:47 a.m.

Stretching over 10.3 kilometers and featuring 18 stops, this new line spans Finch Avenue West from Finch West Station on Line 1 Yonge-University to Humber Polytechnic’s North Campus. Commuters can seamlessly connect to York Region Transit, MiWay, and Brampton Transit from various stops along the route.

To celebrate the grand opening, the first-day rides on the Finch West LRT will be complimentary. Passengers can also grab some Line 6 keepsakes, such as ride guides, vehicle cutouts, and collectible coins.

Premier Doug Ford expressed his excitement ahead of the launch, stating, “Thank goodness, we’re open for business now. It took the whole city and part of the province to get this going, but it’s open now.”

Operating initially under “soft opening” hours, the line will run from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sundays. Shuttle buses will be available between 10 p.m. and 1 a.m. to bridge the gap.

Passengers will need to pay fares using Presto, credit, or debit cards at platform terminals as onboard fare payment is currently unavailable. Additionally, a single-ride vending machine will cater to cash transactions.

As the spotlight shifts to the Eglinton Crosstown LRT, recent developments indicate progress, with independent engineers confirming the line’s readiness for service. The TTC has now assumed full operational control, paving the way for a potential 2026 opening date.
