Authorities Seek Information and Footage of Suspicious Apartment Building Fire
Officials are seeking video footage and witnesses related to a destructive fire that ravaged multiple units in an unoccupied apartment building straddling Burnaby and Coquitlam early Sunday.
According to Coquitlam Fire and Rescue, the blaze on North Road, near Como Lake Avenue or Broadway, was reported around 5 a.m. Crews arrived to find a substantial fire affecting numerous suites, with some areas inaccessible due to safety concerns.
The City of Coquitlam noted that the fire, which had to be allowed to burn in certain sections for hours, is being treated as suspicious. The building had been unoccupied since a prior fire occurred almost a year ago.
Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing, as confirmed by the Coquitlam RCMP in a recent update. Acting Sgt. George Han urged anyone with information or video evidence to reach out to the authorities.
