A father in Scarborough is heartbroken after masked vandals destroyed his cherished family tradition of a festive Christmas display in his Guildwood neighborhood. Scot Patriquin had spent hours setting up an impressive Christmas scene with inflatables, lights, and music, only to wake up to the sound of his decorations being ruthlessly destroyed early Sunday morning.
The culprits were caught on the family’s doorbell camera, wielding a hammer to slash and puncture the inflatables one by one until Santa, Rudolph, and Frosty the Snowman lay lifeless in the snow. The incident has left the community shocked and saddened, with children like Sarah Carlson’s son feeling deeply upset by the destruction.
Patriquin, who had dedicated countless hours to creating the display each year, is now contemplating whether to rebuild it before Christmas. The act of vandalism not only took away a source of joy for the neighborhood but also caused trauma and fear among residents.
While Toronto police investigate the crime, the community has rallied around Patriquin, offering support and solidarity. Despite the setback, he remains determined to uphold the Christmas spirit and refuses to let the vandals succeed in ruining the holiday cheer that his display brought to the neighborhood.
