Newly issued snow warning for Montreal as 20 centimetres expected
Prepare for a snowy week in Montreal as Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a heavy snow warning for the area. Over the next few days, Montrealers can expect between 15 to 20 centimetres of snowfall, causing significant impacts on travel and visibility.
The snowfall is set to begin from this morning and continue through Thursday evening. Strong winds on Thursday are predicted to create blowing snow, making it challenging for commuters on the roads. ECCC advises motorists to allow extra time for their travels due to the anticipated difficult driving conditions.
The weather forecast indicates that Wednesday will bring 5 to 10 centimetres of snow during the day, with an additional 5 to 10 centimetres overnight as winds shift to the west at 20 km/h. On Thursday, another 2 to 4 centimetres of snow is expected along with westerly winds gusting up to 60 km/h. Temperatures are set to drop to -9 Celsius in the afternoon, with wind chills making it feel like -18 C.
As the snow lingers into Thursday night, Montrealers can expect calmer yet cold conditions leading into Friday. Friday will see a mix of sun and cloud with a high of -5 C. Saturday’s forecast includes cloudy skies with a 60 per cent chance of flurries and a high of -2 C, with snow making a return on Saturday night.
Sunday will bring continued flurries with a high of -7 C, followed by clearing skies and a drop in temperatures to -16 C overnight. Looking ahead, Monday is expected to be sunny with a high of -10 C, and Tuesday will have a mix of sun and cloud with a high of -6 C.
