Police Open Fire on Distraught Woman in Saint-Hyacinthe Confrontation

Quebec Police Officers Shoot Woman in Crisis Allegedly Wielding Knife
Early Wednesday morning in Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec, police officers from the Sûreté du Québec fired upon a woman who was reportedly in crisis and wielding a knife inside a residential building.

The incident unfolded around 7 a.m. on Lussier Avenue, close to Cayouette Street, following a call regarding a distressed individual. Upon arriving at the scene, officers encountered the woman in a stairwell, where she advanced towards them with a bladed weapon. In response, at least one officer discharged their firearm.

The woman, whose age remains unconfirmed, sustained critical injuries and went into cardiac arrest. Paramedics administered resuscitation efforts while transporting her to the hospital; however, her current condition and survival have not been officially disclosed.

The investigation into this incident has been assumed by the Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes.
